Big Cat Green Island Reef Cruises provides half and full day tours to Green Island, on the Great Barrier Reef. The full day tour departs Cairns at 9am and returns at 5pm, providing guests with five hours to explore, swim, snorkel, walk and relax on Green Island. Green Island is the only coral cay on the Great Barrier Reef to boast rainforest vegetation. It is also home to a luxurious resort and accompanying facilities including bar, cafes and restaurants. “Big Cat” is a 35m catamaran with spacious air-conditioned interior and exterior sun decks with comfortable seating. Optional extras include a buffet lunch featuring vegetarian lasagne, beef curry, steamed rice, cold meats, salads and tropical fruits, semi-submarine tours, certified and introductory diving, Seawalker helmet diving, parasailing and boat snorkel trips to the outer edge of Green Island Reef. I travelled to Green Island on Big Cat on 25th July on the 11am boat. Also travelling with me was my Boyfriend and his Grandmother, who both extremely enjoyed the trip. I found the vessels, (the rocket and larger boat) to be very comfortable and clean, which is always important when travelling to the Reef. The Staff were fantastic and friendly, and I found that the information about the reef, snorkelling, Green Island ECT that was provided on the vessel during the boat ride was very useful and easy to understand, which a bonus is for those foreigners who can’t speck much English. Some of the information that was provided I have not actually heard on other companies also travelling to the reef, this I found to be impressive. The lunch was also one of the best Buffet Lunches I have had with any other Reef Company, especially the beef curry, mmmmmmm. The glass bottom boat tour was educational and fun, the Driver was well informed and had good of knowledge about the different types and reef and marine life.
