Ocean Spirit is Cairns premier sail tour operator, cruising to the Great Barrier Reef daily for snorkelling, sailing and diving.  The fleet includes four spacious catamarans, which vary in size from 24.9m long to 32m long.  You can choose between a day trip to Michaelmas Cay (which we write about here) or Oyster & Upolu Reef (also listed on this site).  The unique features which set this day tour apart include a high crew to guest ratio and live musical entertainment on the homeward sail to Cairns with a complimentary glass of sparkling Australian wine.  Everything else is as you would expect, qualified staff, excellent equipment, meals and a great day snorkelling on Michaelmas Cay, at the Great Barrier Reef.

Your Ocean Spirit day tour to Michaelmas Cay begins with an 8.30am check-in at Cairns’ Marlin Jetty, before boarding the sailing catamaran and enjoying morning tea and refreshments.  Your snorkelling destination is Michaelmas Cay, a protected reef sand island which is home to more than 20,000 migrating sea birds over the course of the year.  This is one of the most important nesting sites in the southern hemisphere and the shallow waters surrounding it are perfect for snorkelling, with the reef just metres under the surface.  All snorkelling equipment is provided, including flotation vests if required, with demonstrations and tuitions available.  To learn more about this amazing ecosystem, join the ecological presentation provided by the qualified marine biologist on board.  Return to the catamaran for an amazing hot and cold buffet lunch, including fresh local seafood.  In the afternoon you can enjoy a tour on the air-conditioned semi-submersible, guided bird tours, more snorkelling or just relax and enjoy the sunshine.  In the afternoon, the engines are turned off for a true sailing experience complemented by live musical entertainment and a glass of sparkling Australian wine.  Most things are included in your ticket price, but there are some optional extras including certified and introductory diving, guided snorkelling tour with the marine biologist, sunscreen lotions and underwater cameras.
