Cairns Dive Centre: Sample 3 Day Liveaboard Dive Tour Outer Reef Itinerary
Monday: Cairns Dive Centre’s courtesy coach will collect you from your Cairns accommodation, providing a complimentary transfer to Marlin Marina.  After check-in, you will board the M.V. Reef-Kist for your transfer to the live aboard vessel, the 25m catamaran M.V. Kangaroo Explorer.  Based on the Outer Great Barrier Reef, M.V. Kangaroo Explorer will allow you to explore three different dive sites during your three day, two night adventure.  Dive sites will be chosen to maximise your experience, given the daily weather conditions.  There will be time for two or three dives on your first day and you will see some amazing coral and marine life.  As dusk settles you can prepare for the optional night dive.  A guide is recommended and although this is extra cost, it will enhance the thrill and exploration of night diving on the Outer Barrier Reef!

Tuesday: Ease into the day with a leisurely breakfast, prepared on board by the talented chefs.  There is time for four or five dives today, so pace yourself throughout the day and when you are not in the water, relax on the spacious sun deck or air-conditioned lounge.  The dive sites you may explore include Milln, Moore, Briggs, Thetford, Elford, Sudbury or Channel Reefs.  All are approximately 64km offshore from Cairns and offer different dive experiences.

Milln is located in the centre of the reef’s lee side and its protected position means that the current is usually mild.  Its rated as a good to excellent dive site, pending the time of year and in spring, visibility is up to 30m.  It has a sloping bottom from 22m to 12m and lots of coral bommies for you to explore.  Moore Reef offers diverse diving experiences including drop offs, gutters, swim throughs and coral bommies.  As a dive site, Moore is rated fair in winter and very good in spring, its visibility is not as good as Milln due to its position on the reef.  There is the opportunity for another night dive tonight.

Wednesday: It’s your last day of Outer Great Barrier Reef diving with Cairns Dive Centre today.  M.V. Kangaroo Explorer will take you to a new reef site, which will be chosen to maximise your experience.  If it is Briggs Reef, then you can look forward to drop offs, gutters, swim throughs and a flat bottom reef system.  In spring, this site has a dive rating of excellent.
