Cairns Dive Centre: Sample 2 Day Liveaboard Outer Reef Itinerary
Monday: Commence your live aboard dive tour to the Outer Barrier Reef with a complimentary coach transfer from your Cairns accommodation to the Marlin Marina.  Cairns Dive Centre’s day tour vessel, M.V. Reef-Kist will take you from here to the Outer Great Barrier Reef, where you will transfer to M.V. Kangaroo Explorer.  This two day and one night live aboard dive tour includes five day dives, two today and three tomorrow, as well as a night dive.  Cairns Dive Centre is licensed to visit up to seven different reef sites and will select the best two to maximise your Great Barrier Reef dive experience.

One of the dive sites you may visit is Elford Reef, which has abundant coral bomboras, some gutters and swim throughs and a few drop offs.  The coral is stunning and there is a huge variety of brightly coloured tropical fish.  The night dive will provide a completely different experience on the reef.  This can be escorted, at extra cost, and the guide is highly recommended to maximise your enjoyment of the night dive.

Tuesday: It’s already day two of your live aboard dive adventure: a new day and a new reef site to visit.  Pending conditions, today it may be Thetford, Sudbury or Channel Reef.  Each offers different dive conditions, features and marine life.  Thetford Ref has swim throughs on coral bommies and is rated as a very good dive site in spring, with 20m + visibility.  Sudbury Reef has a lot of bomboras, a mild current and is usually a very good dive site for most of the year.  Channel Reef is on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef so currents can be quite strong here, however the diving is excellent.  In the afternoon, transfer back to M.V. Reef-Kist for your return journey to Cairns and the end of your Cairns Dive Centre, live aboard dive tour.

Passenger notes:

  • What is not included in the ticket price? Environmental Management Levy, Fuel Levy, Port and Admin Charges, alcoholic beverages, and the optional Guided Dive tour.
