Fitzroy Island was long known as the “locals island” to Cairns residents.  A great place to get away for the day, relax on the coral beaches, take the scenic Lighthouse walk to enjoy amazing views over the island, Coral Sea and mainland.  After a few years of redevelopment and change, Fitzroy Island recently reopened to the public in June 2010, offering resort features, adventure activities as well as rest and relaxation.  Raging Thunder provides daily catamaran transfers from Cairns to the island, departing at 8.30am from the Reef Fleet Terminal.  A quick 45-minute transfer will see you stepping on to the coral beaches where you can enjoy seven hours exploring, relaxing and swimming before the 4.30pm departure. This package includes a choice of free snorkeling equipment or a Glass Bottom Boat Tour, transfers and a delicious picnic lunch.  There are four walking tracks exploring the island, with walks taking from 45 minutes to 3 hours return.  A Fitzroy Island day tour is great for friends, couples and families and allows you to see the Great Barrier Reef, whilst exploring a large continental island with diverse flora and fauna.
