Medical Notes

• Minimum age of participants: 15 years
• You must be able to swim at least 200m and float for 10-minutes: this will be tested.
• An Australian Dive Medical must be completed prior to, or in conjunction with, this Cairns learn to dive course.  If you do not already have one, these can be arranged on day 1 at a reduced cost of $44.
• Please note: some medical conditions will prevent you from learning to dive including asthma, diabetes, epilepsy or heart and lung conditions.  This is for your safety and wellbeing.

Down Under Cruise and Dive: Sample 5 Day Learn to Dive Itinerary
Monday (Cairns): Down Under Cruise and Dive’s free coach transfer will pick you up at 7.30am and transfer you to the training facility, for your first day of scuba school.  First task of the day is to complete your compulsory Dive Medical: this is an additional cost.  Once you have received the all clear, head into the classroom to learn the theory of scuba diving.  Take notes, these are the fundamentals and you will be putting them into practice this afternoon, after a lunchbreak.

Tuesday (Cairns): Today includes more theory and pool work, as well as a theory exam.  After lunch, continue practising your scuba schools in the dive training pool, as tomorrow it is out to the open water of the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef.

Wednesday (Great Barrier Reef): Down Under Cruise and Dive’s Osprey 5 day boat is fast and modern.  They have 12 different dive sites they can visit: the best ones will be chosen on the day to maximise your experience.  To complete the requirements of the PADI Open Water Learn to Dive course, students must complete four training dives with a qualified scuba instructor, demonstrating key skills and abilities.  Today you will complete two of these dives.  When you are not in the water, relax on the spacious sun deck and air-conditioned interiors.

Thursday (Great Barrier Reef): Return to the Great Barrier Reef aboard Osprey 5, for your second day of diving and completion of our training dives.  A delicious Aussie BBQ lunch is served a board Osprey 5 (every day) and includes salads, fresh bread, cold meats, steak, sausages and more.  At the end of the day, your instructors will give you your PADI Open Water Diver License.

Friday (Great Barrier Reef): Your first day of diving as a certified diver.  Leave the instructor behind and enjoy the freedom of exploring the Great Barrier Reef on your own, with your dive buddy.  Three certified dives are included in the package, as is lunch and complementary coach transfers.
