SSI stands for Scuba Schools International, which has a signature training model for learning to scuba dive, the SSI Diver Diamond.  Once obtained, the internationally recognised scuba diving certification SSI Open Water Diver allows you to dive anywhere in the world.  It will enable you to:

• Dive comfortably and confidently with your certified dive buddy, within the parameters of your training and experience.
• Purchase / rent dive equipment anywhere in the world, including air fills.
• Plan and complete no decompression scuba dives, to depths in accordance with your license, in the company of other certified divers.
• Improve your scuba diving skills by taking speciality SSI courses such as the SSI Advanced Dive Course or SSI Stress and Rescue Dive Course.

Cairns Dive Centre’s four (4) day SSI Learn to Dive – Open Water Diver Course includes two days in the classroom and heated in ground pool, learning theory and basic skills in Cairns, before heading out to the Great Barrier Reef on two separate day trips aboard M.V. Sun-Kist.

With an emphasis on practical training in actual dive conditions, the Cairns Dive Centre SSI Open Water Diver course teaches you the theory and practical skills you need to dive the Great Barrier Reef – and anywhere else – with confidence.

Their professional SSI Dive Instructors are committed to teaching you the fundamental knowledge you need to enter the underwater world.  Practical water lessons are complemented by the SSI Student Manual, which features a study guide to help you test your knowledge at the end of each core section, and an instructional DVD.

The third and fourth days of the course are spent on M.V Sun-Kist, visiting the Great Barrier Reef and undertaking the open water dives necessary to complete your SSI Open Water Diver course on two separate day tours.  Complimentary transfers from Cairns city accommodation is included in the course fee and ensures you at the boat ready for a 8.30am departure.

Two training dives are completed each day and at the end, you are a fully certified SSI Open Water Diver.
