I am most pleased to report that as we suggested, the Great Barrier Reef 2010 coral spawning took place between 25 – 27 November. For those lucky enough to have been there, the waters were calm and the nights were magical, as thousands of different Great Barrier Reef corals released their eggs into the water.

Fitzroy Island is officially back open for business, following an extensive refurbishment of its resort accommodation and facilities.
Just a 45-minute catamaran transfer from Cairns, Fitzroy Island offers visitors a range of adventure and relaxation activities including but not limited to snorkelling on coral reefs, sea kayaking to private beaches, jumping on the ocean trampoline, sea paddling, mountain and rainforest walks, relaxing at the swim-up bar or chilling out on sand and coral beaches.

It is amazing in today’s world, where extinction is a possibility facing increasing numbers of animals, that new species are still being discovered.
That is exactly what happened on Cairns’ Great Barrier Reef last week, when researchers found what they believe are a tiny new species of seahorse.
The pygmy seahorse, which is just 5mm long, was found living in the reef’s “twilight zone” about 100m beneath the surface, 200km offshore from Cairns, in Queensland, Australia.

Sunlover Cruises has won the Tourism Tropical North Queensland 2010 award for Major Tour and /or Transport Operators. Open to operators with 15 or more annual full-time equivalent employees, this category is not a transport award, rather recognising an operator’s major contribution to tourism through the provision of tour guiding or transport services with a tourism experience being a significant part of their operation.
Sunlover Cruises is committed to the protection and sustainability of the Great Barrier Reef and provides daily snorkelling and dive tours to Moore Reef, where guests enjoy exclusive use of the Sunlover Cruises pontoon.

Scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef during coral spawning is an amazing experience. Be there to witness the world’s largest living organism, the Great Barrier Reef, undertake its annual reproductive cycle. Watch as the corals release their eggs into the water, rising to the surface like a thousand bubbles in a champagne flute.
The coral spawn only occurs at night, generally between October and November, so you will need to book one of Cairns’ liveaboard dive tours to witness this natural phenomenon. There are three tours that give the chance to witness the 2010 Great Barrier Reef coral spawning in November: Cairns Dive Centre’s 3 day / 2 night tour aboard M.V Kangaroo Explorer; Pro Dive Cairns’ 3 day Outer Great Barrier Reef scuba diving tour; Reef Encounter’s 3 day / 2 night certified diving. Prices range from $470 – $699.
